The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Centre for Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies, NICRO (National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders) and the Western Cape Department of Correctional Services will present a performance of Live, Love, Leave a Legacy featuring UCT theatre students, Pollsmoor Prison participants and a group of parolees.

Presented by A Second Chance Theatre Project, this collaborative arts and social justice initiative uses theatre to find pathways to effective social reintegration of prisoners and challenges the public perception of criminals.

Performances will be staged at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 13 September at 19:00 and 14 September at 14:00.

The first performance will be preceded by a symposium at 16:00, showcasing a performative lecture by keynote guest speaker Andy Watson of the Geese Theatre Company in the UK. Watson will be joined by UCT criminal justice specialist Professor Leon Holtzhausen.

The symposium will examine the heritage of corrections in South Africa, restorative justice, social reintegration and the role of the arts in correctional facilities.
