Marking the celebration of Italian National Space Day, Dr Grazia Umana from the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) will deliver a public talk at the University of Cape Town (UCT). The talk will highlight the exciting science behind telescopes – from pulsars and galaxies to cosmic mysteries yet to be uncovered.
Dr Umana will take attendees on a journey through the cosmos using some of the world’s most powerful radio telescopes – MeerKAT, MeerKAT+ and the upcoming Square Kilometre Array (SKA).
Umana will also explore the growing collaboration between Italy and South Africa in radio astronomy, showcasing how international partnerships are shaping the future of space science.

This public talk is organised as a side event of the RADIOMAP collaboration workshop, which marks the conclusion of a successful three-year research exchange program between Italy and South Africa, focused on MeerKAT science and the preparation for the SKA. This programme was supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the South African Department of Science and the South African National Research Foundation.
