Installation programme for Vice-Chancellor
Dr Max Price was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor for the University of Cape Town on 1 July 2008. His inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, 19 August, will be part of an extensive installation programme.

UCT rolls up its green sleeves
The University of Cape Town will have its first Green Week from 4 to 8 August 2008. A series of events have been organised to create awareness of environmental issues in particular climate change and sustainable practices.

Africa's first Research Commons adds muscle to scholarship
UCT's research endeavour has a strong new ally in the form of the new R1-million Research Commons, a resource for postgraduate students and academic staff, launched this week. It is the result of a partnership between the university and long-time supporter the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

Top book award for UCT's academic
Professor Nicoli Nattrass of UCT's School of Economics has won one of the country's top academic book prizes, the Bill Venter/Altron Literary Award, matching her husband, Professor Jeremy Seekings, a previous recipient.

UCT Team Smile laugh all the way to Silicon Valley
Team Smile, a group of postgraduate students from the UCT Department of Information Systems in the Faculty of Commerce achieved international recognition this week at the Microsoft Imagine Cup competition in Paris and will travel to Silicon Valley for intense business and technology training as part of their prize.

UCT appoints first law woman as Dean
Professor Pamela Jane Schwikkard has made history at the University of Cape Town (UCT) by becoming the first woman to be appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Law. She will succeed Professor Hugh Corder on 1 January 2009.

UCT awards over a thousand qualifications in mid-year graduations
Over a thousand students will graduate this week from the University of Cape Town. This mid-year graduation will also be the last official graduation ceremonies for the current Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Njabulo S Ndebele.

UCT honours Lord Wolfson in London
The University of Cape Town this morning, 14 May 2008, honoured Lord Leonard Wolfson with the degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) honoris causa. The graduation ceremony took place at the South Africa House in London, with the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Njabulo S Ndebele presiding over the ceremony.

Phyllis Spira was an integral part of the dance scene at the University of Cape Town for almost forty years. UCT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Njabulo S Ndebele conveyed a message of condolences to the family and friends of Spira, on behalf of the UCT community and dance colleagues.

Vice-Chancellor Statement on integration of student residences
The University of Cape Town has taken note of the video-incident at the University of the Free State and the related activities and reactions to it. The incident and underlying issues that led to this act are deplorable. They have no place in an institution of higher learning.

UCT consults public about commemoration of historic slave burial ground
The University of Cape Town held its second meeting in its public consultation process about its proposed development near the Rustenburg burial site. The site is the final resting place of slaves who worked the farms along the Liesbeeck River in the 17th and 18th centuries.

President of University of Michigan presents lecture at UCT
The Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Cape Town, Professor Njabulo S Ndebele will host the President of the University of Michigan, Professor Mary Sue Coleman, during his next Open Lecture taking place on Tuesday, 4 March 2008 at 13:00.

UCT to award six honorary degrees in 2008
The University of Cape Town will be awarding six honorary degrees this year, to recognise people whose work has distinguished them as significant in their fields of speciality. These degrees will be conferred during the June and December graduation ceremonies at UCT.

UCT Vice-Chancellor to be awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by the University of Michigan
The University of Michigan in the United States of America earlier this month announced that they will award an honorary Doctor of Laws degree to Prof Njabulo S. Ndebele, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Cape Town.
