The University of Cape Town (UCT) has achieved exceptional success in its Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) 2025 Thuthuka results, marking a significant increase in the pass rate.
The Thuthuka programme plays a pivotal role in advancing education, transformation and fostering academic success among aspiring chartered accountants (CAs) in South Africa. UCT’s exemplary performance not only sets a benchmark for academic excellence but also contributes significantly to empowering future CAs.
The PGDA results were exceptional this year, which is also reflected in the performance of Thuthuka students:
“May you continue to set new benchmarks in excellence, transformation and sustainability in the South African higher education landscape.”
Professor Ilse Lubbe from the College of Accounting said: “This success is a testament to the dedication of our students and the unwavering commitment of our academic team. We are proud to contribute to widening access and strengthening the pipeline of future chartered accountants in South Africa.”
This milestone underscores the effectiveness of UCT’s academic interventions and robust student support systems, as well as the perseverance of its students.
UCT’s vice-chancellor (VC), Professor Mosa Moshabela, commented: “Our achievement reflects not only the commitment and resilience of our students, but also the strength of the longstanding partnership between UCT and Thuthuka.” The VC further acknowledged the leadership and teamwork of the College of Accounting, whose efforts underpin the quality and integrity of the PGDA programme.
Benchmarks
Dion Shango, the Thuthuka Education Upliftment Fund chairman, in a letter of congratulations to the institution – addressed to the VC – noted: “The success of the Thuthuka programme in 2025 highlights the effectiveness of academic interventions, the strength of student support systems, and the perseverance of your students. We also wish to express our sincere gratitude for your leadership, as well as that of the Faculty of Commerce and the College of Accounting. This achievement is well-deserved recognition of the hard work and commitment of [head of College of Accounting] Associate Professor Goolam Modack; supported by Professor Suki Goodman, the dean of the Faculty of Commerce.”
Shango added: “UCT’s exemplary PGDA performance not only reflects the high standards upheld by your institution but also serves as an inspiration to other SAICA [South African Institute of Chartered Accountants]-endorsed [programmes]. May you continue to set new benchmarks in excellence, transformation and sustainability in the South African higher education landscape.”
