Jameson Hall hosted an array of creative performers on August 8, who expressed themselves on issues surrounding gender in the form of rap.

The concert, which was a huge success, was organised by the UCT Gender Forum and held in order to create awareness around gender issues in a way that would be enjoyed by both men and women.

The concert boasted noteworthy talent but the winner was an artist by the name of Self, who blew the audience away with his unaccompanied monologue about his own gender journey. Second prize went to a group of women who had everyone moving with their rap, turning song into motivational speak. The third winner was Dark Blood, a rapper who reflected on campus gender phenomena.

The winners each won a bag and CDs with an additional amount of money for first, second and third prizes.

Café Quencha made a generous donation of soft drinks and popcorn, while Shoprite/Checkers and the Vice-Chancellor's Office made contributions of R2 000 and R5 000, respectively.

The gingerbread biscuits, which proved to be extremely popular last week, were sold at the event and all money raised from this initiative will go towards the Trauma Unit at the Ronderbosch police station, where raped and abused women go for counselling, care and anti-retroviral drugs.
