UCT to host international summit on SDGs in Africa

It’s not every day that you can collect insights from government, business, academia and civil society all in one place, around a focused agenda on what matters most: peace and prosperity.

The upcoming virtual three-day International Summit on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa, hosted by the University of Cape Town (UCT), presents you with an opportunity to hear keynotes from various thought‑leaders across different disciplines, and challenge them with probing questions on meaningful issues for Africans during robust panel discussions.

Thought‑leaders include, but are not limited to, Professor Salim Abdool Karim (director of the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa), Dr John Nkengasong (director of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention), Professor Ian Goldin from the University of Oxford, Professor Ernest Aryeetey (secretary-general of the African Research Universities Alliance), and Professor Dr Kazuhiko Takeuchi (president of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies).

The primary focus of the summit is the United Nations SDGs, a shared blueprint for working towards global peace and prosperity by 2030. The summit will also integrate the main strategic framework guiding policymaking across the African continent – the African Union’s “Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want”.
