Students get taste of job market

24 May 2006

Any career fair is sort of like window shopping for jobs. And that's just what hundreds of students did when the Career Development Programme, based in the Centre for Higher Education Development, staged the 2006 UCT Career Fair on May 11.

The occasion allows students of all years and makes to meet graduate recruiters and find out exactly what's on offer - and what's demanded - out there in the marketplace. This year, more than 50 companies set up exhibits in Jameson and Molly Blackburn Halls. They included regular UCT partners Accenture, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Investec, KPMG, Standard Bank and Unilever. The retail, engineering, manufacturing and mining sectors were all represented, as were a number of national government departments. Even UCT academics boasted a stall of their own, touting the prospects in academia.
