Spring semester in Illinois

Come in from the cold: The UCT trio currently spending a semester at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) are (from left) Marcina Singh, Mishinga Seyuba and Tyrell Sassen.

NEWS from abroad is that three UCT students have arrived at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Marcina Singh, Mishinga (Shingi) Seyuba and Tyrell Sasses arrived on January 14 to spend the spring semester there.

According to Caz Thomas, deputy director of the International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO), the trio report that they have settled in well. They also say they have been made to feel very welcome, that it is very cold in the city (don't be deceived by that word “spring”), and that people there “speak funny”.

Singh and Seyuba have started the third year of their social science degrees and Sassen has begun the fourth year of his electrical engineering degree.

The three will be back in South Africa to commence the second semester at UCT in July.
