The Robert Andrews Prize for Piano was awarded to undergraduate piano student, Theo Alkema. Associate Professor Graham Fitch, Head of Piano at the SACM, says that Alkema was adjudged the best by adjudicator Dr Peter Roennfeldt from the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane, Australia, because of his convincing performance of the music of Klatzow and Van Wyk .

Robert Andrews is a British pianist, composer and music teacher who was approached by Fitch to set up a new piano prize in his name at SACM. The award is open to all undergraduate pianists studying at SACM. It is an annual award, so interested candidates should check the piano notice board for details at the end of the first semester, advised Fitch.

To audition for the scholarship, students are required to play a 15-minute programme of music written within the last 50 years by a composer from the Southern Hemisphere.
