The University of Cape Town (UCT) recognised the achievements of its top scholars with the 2025 induction into the College of Fellows. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) for Research and Internationalisation, Professors Jeff Murugan (Mathematics & Applied Mathematics), Jaco Barnard-Naudé (Law), and Andy Buffler (Physics) were honoured for their exceptional contributions that have advanced knowledge in their fields and strengthened UCT’s global reputation for research excellence.
The event also celebrated the next generation of academic leaders, with the Young Researcher Awards presented to Dr Simon Mendelsohn (Pathology), Professor Malebogo Ngoepe (Mechanical Engineering), and Dr Emily Garman (Psychiatry). Together, the inductees reflect UCT’s commitment to innovation, critical inquiry, and societal impact – values that remain central to the university’s mission under Vision 2030.
