Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Njabulo S Ndebele, hosted a cocktail party at his residence, Glenara, on 29 May. The event was held in honour of UCT academic and administrative staff and students who have made a significant contribution in their work and research in the past year.

In his speech, Ndebele quoted Gordon Gee, the Chancellor of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, who said, 'When the fabric of the universe becomes unknown, it is the duty of the university to produce weavers.'

'I believe that there are many weavers in this room,' said Ndebele. 'Weavers who, through your work and your dedication, are making your mark in the advancement and enrichment of our society and our world.'
