Nigerian society helps Capetonians cover up

02 August 2006

With Cape Town in the grip of a bitterly cold winter, the gift from UCT's Nigerian Students' Society couldn't have been better timed. In May, the society launched a campaign calling for blankets for the city's neediest citizens. Last week, that drive paid off when the society handed over nearly 50 blankets (mostly new) plus clothes to the Cape Town City Mission, which distributes these and other donations to needy communities around Cape Town. "Winter time in Cape Town is very cold," says the society's Olukayode Ajayi, "and no one can turn their eyes from the needs of others." The Nigerian Students' Society ran an identical drive last year.
