Crime Awareness Week

02 August 2006

As is its custom, Campus Protection Services (CPS) will kick off the new semester with another Crime Awareness Week, starting on Monday, July 31. Staff can expect random road blocks and staff- and student-card checks, says Vincent Ricketts, operations manager for Group 4 Securicor at UCT. In addition, CPS will be dropping off pamphlets at departments and residences, and will throughout the week encourage staff and students to take more heed of security issues. That means no leaving office doors unlocked when there's no one in the office, no more leaving property in plain sight in vehicles, and to display staff and student cards at all times. The UCT community is also encouraged to report suspicious people on campus to CPS at extension 2222. "We're doing our level best to curb crime on campus," says Steven Ganger, crimes investigations manager at CPS. "But we need the help of staff and students to call CPS should they see anything or anybody suspicious." (On just one day last week, CPS arrested seven trespassers.)
