Live and kicking – UCT's new website takes off

07 October 2002

UCT's new website, over nine months in the making, has gone live.

Web Development Manager Joey Haasbroek, who has had the exhausting and unenviable job of guiding the development of the University's new cyberface, said the site had been developed to market the University professionally, providing all essential information in a manageable format.

Understandably, the new site has been especially busy, particularly last week immediately after its debut. Anyone needing help in navigating around it can access the quick guide to the site by going to the Staff and Student Portal (top right of the home page) and accessing the Staff News Boards.

The old UCT home page will be up for reference purposes for a short period. However, individual sites such as those of departments, research units, etc. will remain available indefinitely at the same site.

“It is unavoidable that users will encounter some technical hitches during the deployment of a new development of this magnitude, which includes a back-end content upload tool for all departments and faculties,” said Haasbroek.

“I trust that everyone will enjoy the new website, which we're quite proud of. We will continue to develop and grow the site to meet the needs of all interest groups. Please bear with us during this period and send any comments and suggestions to the web manager.
