On Wednesday, 9 June, the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Residence Academic Development Committee (RADC) will host a webinar on academic success, facilitated by the former Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe Professor Arthur Mutambara.

The webinar will take place from 13:00 to 14:00.

Professor Mutambara is a visiting full professor at the University of Johannesburg and the author of a new trilogy: In Search of the Elusive Zimbabwean Dream: An Autobiography of Thought Leadership. He was one of the three principals who created and led the Government of National Unity in Zimbabwe.

Mutambara is also an independent technology and strategy consultant, based in South Africa. He was the president of the African News Agency. His primary mandate included media technology innovation, digital platform development, and harnessing social media tools. He championed the use of artificial intelligence and intelligent algorithms in media, resulting in new business models.

He has a PhD in robotics and mechatronics and an MSc in Computer Engineering from the University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. In 2007, Mutambara was accorded the World Economic Forum (WEF) Young Global Leader status, and subsequently attended WEF events in Davos, Switzerland; in China and India; and in Africa.

He is a chartered engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers and a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Academy of Sciences. Mutambara is a former research scientist at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has written two electrical engineering books.
