Notice about false information on social media

Dear students and colleagues

A notice about the UCT Financial Aid Office withholding student financial aid has been circulating on social media today.

Please ignore this notice as it is not true. The bank file for allowances is at the Financial Aid Office and is being processed for today as per the scheduled payment date.

UCT only communicates to the campus community about university-wide matters via official channels, in communiques such as campus announcements and From the VC’s Desk. Please be wary of fake news on social media, especially in a time of heightened tensions.

Please note that information about services that are affected is constantly updated on the UCT News website.

In a statement to UCT students, Vice-Chancellor Dr Max Price said:
“I wish no student to be ignorant about what constitutes unlawful protest behaviour.
Disruption of classes, blocking of entrances or exits, interfering with traffic flow, putting up barricades that prevent people from conducting normal business or attending classes, and any form of intimidation – whether physical or verbal – is unlawful.”
