UCT business school scoops award at international competition for Marikana case study
A University of Cape Town (UCT) research that looks at Lonmin Plc mining and the role of investors, following the Marikana massacre in 2012, has won researchers from the UCT Graduate School of Business (GSB) first prize in the prestigious 2017 European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) Case Writing Competition in the African Business Case category.

UCT Biomedical engineers design affordable adrenaline auto-injector to assist people prone to allergies
People with allergies to certain foods, bee stings, and so on, develop an auto-immune condition called anaphylaxis and when the person is exposed to a substance that triggers an allergic reaction, they need to use an adrenaline auto-injector within 15 minutes. If they are unable to do this the situation could be fatal - according to Associate Professor Mike Levin, head of the Division of Asthma and Allergy at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

UCT study suggests the illicit trade in cigarettes targets poor communities in SA
With World No Tobacco Day set to be commemorated on 31 May 2018, research at the University of Cape Town (UCT) shows that the decline in excise tax revenue from tobacco products may indicate a large increase in the illicit cigarette market. Cigarettes acquired through the illegal market are cheaper, making it easier for people to start smoking, consume more, as well as not quit the habit as easily as they may have.

The University of Cape Town (UCT) Graduate School of Business (GSB) has climbed 3 places up to be ranked 67th among the Top 90 business schools in the prestigious annual Financial Times Executive Education Customised Rankings 2018. The GSB was also ranked in the Top 50 for its international clients, faculty diversity and future use.

Funding of R1.5 million unlocked for UCT social entrepreneurs
Student social entrepreneurs from the University of Cape Town (UCT) have been given a lifeline by the South African Breweries (SAB) Foundation after it pledged an amount of R1.5 million. This Student Seed Fund (SSF) is an initiative of the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a specialised unit at UCT's Graduate School of Business. The SSF provides students with innovative ideas for social enterprises with access to seed capital.
