UCT statement on security at exam venue
Due to the situation that UCT has faced over the past few weeks, where multiple classes, tests and exams were targeted by protesters and some disrupted to a point that they had to be abandoned, an alternative plan to ensure the successful delivery of the exams was developed.

SA students win international competition for job-seekers' app
A team of South African students has won the 2017 Geneva Challenge (GC) by developing Umvozu - a mobile application that links job-seekers with employers, allowing job-seekers to upskill themselves through training modules delivered in a gamified process.

UCT academics offer insights on negotiating learning and identity in higher education
Academics from the University of Cape Town have published a topical and insightful book which addresses the issue of students' multiple transitions in and out of the higher education system. The book, Negotiating learning and identity in higher education: Access, Persistence and Retention, is edited by Dr Bongi Bangeni and Professor Rochelle Kapp.

UCT's statement on final exams
The UCT final exams will start on Wednesday, 15 November 2017 and conclude on 30 November 2017. Exam sessions will stretch throughout the day and into the early evening. Multiple sessions will run with thousands of students writing different exams each day.

University of Cape Town academic Professor Heather Zar has been announced as the 2018 L'Oreal-UNESCO Women in Science Laureate for Africa and the Arab States. This is in recognition of her wide-ranging contributions to child health, which have improved - and saved - children's lives across the globe, as well as helping to shape international policy.

UCT student presents solution to food waste
A UCT masters student and her team have won an international innovation competition after creating a solution to minimise food waste through a mobile app. This app, known as Bagzielicous, allows consumers to track the expiry date of perishable items they have purchased to avoid waste.

UCT to jointly host molecular farming workshop
The University of Cape Town's Biopharming Research Unit (BRU) and iBio Inc and will host a Molecular Farming Workshop in Franschhoek from 3-4 November 2017.
