Updated e-hailing access protocol on upper campus

15 June 2026

Dear colleagues and students

The University of Cape Town (UCT) community is advised that, as part of the ongoing safety and security improvements by Campus Protection Services (CPS), a new access protocol for e-hailing vehicles will be implemented on upper campus from Monday, 22 June 2026.

E-hailing vehicles, such as Bolt and Uber, will not be permitted to proceed past the access booms on upper campus between 20:00 and 06:00. During this period, e-hailing vehicles must drop off and collect passengers at the demarcated drop-and-go area outside the Visitors’ Reception and Information Centre.

Normal access for e-hailing vehicles will resume daily from 06:00.

This measure forms part of UCT’s broader efforts to strengthen safety and security on campus and follows the existing approach to vehicle access control on upper campus.

To support staff and students, CPS will provide escorts between 20:00 and 06:00 to accompany individuals from the drop-and-go area to their destinations on upper campus, as needed.

CPS can be contacted toll-free on 080 650 2222.

Staff and students are requested to plan their journeys accordingly and to always cooperate with CPS officers.
