Inaugural UCT Well-being Conference and other updates

20 August 2025

Dear colleagues and students

The University of Cape Town (UCT) will launch the Well-being and Flourishing Conference on Tuesday, 9 September 2025. Read more about this and other recent developments on campus.

1. Inaugural UCT Well-being and Flourishing Conference

UCT, through its Centre for Well-being and Flourishing, in partnership with the Department of Student Affairs, will launch the Well-being and Flourishing Conference on Tuesday, 9 September 2025 at the UCT Graduate School of Business.

This landmark gathering marks a defining institutional moment: a bold affirmation that wellbeing is no longer a peripheral concern. The conference reflects UCT’s deepening commitment to academic excellence, redress, transformation and sustainable innovation through the lens of human flourishing.

Strategically led by Professor Elelwani Ramugondo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Transformation, Student Affairs and Social Responsiveness, the conference signals a new chapter for UCT – one in which flourishing is embedded into the fabric of university life, from curriculum and leadership to student development and institutional culture.

The conference is open to all staff, student leaders, researchers and wellbeing innovators across UCT and the broader higher education community. It is especially relevant to those working in pedagogy, student affairs, mental health, transformation, curriculum design and institutional strategy.

Spots are limited, and early registration is strongly encouraged.

2. Have your say on UCT’s Strategy 2030

UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela marked his first year in office on 1 August 2025 by unveiling Strategy 2030, a key milestone aligned with the university’s Vision 2030.

Professor Moshabela invites all staff and students to share their feedback on the draft strategy, encouraging the UCT community to help shape a university that is “the best home for you – a place to explore your talents, push the boundaries of excellence, and activate the best version of yourself while contributing to the success of others and the advancement of society”.

Your voice matters. Share your feedback and help shape UCT’s future.

3. New SRC Constitution and election regulations

The UCT Election Commission will soon host the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and Faculty Council elections. As the student body prepares to participate in this democratic process, the Election Commission informs students of key changes to the 2025 voting process.

The UCT Council approved the new SRC Constitution and Election Regulations on 28 June 2025.

The new regulations make three major amendments to the SRC and Faculty Council election process.

The first is the introduction of the Hybrid Electoral System, the second is the reduction of the voting period, and the third is that the eligibility criteria to run for SRC has been amended.

4. Provisional examination timetable published

The UCT Examinations Office has published the second provisional timetable for the end-year examination cycle. Students can view their timetable on the exams page.

Any requests for amendments must be sent to the relevant academic department for consideration by the head of department. UCT wishes students all the best ahead of the exams.

5. ICTS scheduled maintenance on Sunday, 24 August 2025

The UCT community is advised that Sunday, 24 August 2025, will be an ICTS scheduled maintenance slot from 08:00 to 17:00. Unless advised to the contrary, do not expect any on-premise ICT services to be available for the duration of the maintenance slot.
