In remembrance: Ms Rashieda Khan

Dear colleagues and students

We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Ms Rashieda Khan (52), associate ombud in the Office of the Ombud. Ms Khan passed away at the Gatesville Medical Centre following a sudden stroke on Saturday, 28 June 2025.

She joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) as an administration officer at the then Discrimination and Harassment Office (DISCO), which has since become the Office for Inclusivity and Change (OIC). She later joined the Office of the Ombud on 1 February 2020 as the associate ombud.

Ms Khan will be remembered by her colleagues as a compassionate, dedicated and inspiring individual. She was known for her warm and approachable nature, always willing to listen and offer support to those around her. Her unwavering commitment to fairness, justice and integrity made her a pillar of strength within the team.

Colleagues will also remember her for her professionalism, her positive attitude even in challenging situations, and the genuine care she showed for others. Ms Khan’s legacy will live on through the many lives she touched and the heartfelt memories shared by all who knew her.

Ms Khan is survived by her mother Kulsum, niece Ibtisam, and nephews Abdul and Ramazaan. She was buried on Sunday, 29 June 2025.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Khan family and our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved her during this time of bereavement.
