Dear students
The Department of Student Affairs' Student Wellness Service (SWS) continues offering a range of services during the ongoing examinations to ensure that students are adequately supported.
Students are reminded of the following available services:
1. Deferred examinations support
The UCT Examinations Office has published the final timetable for the mid-year examination cycle, which commenced on Monday, 2 June and will continue until Friday, 20 June 2025. Students can view their timetable on the exams page.
Any requests for amendments must be sent to the Examinations Office, where the appropriate committee chairperson will give further approval. Students who wish to defer their examination for reasons beyond their control can apply to the Deferred Examinations Committee. Applications must be submitted via a service request on PeopleSoft for processing by the committee as per the rules available on the examinations website.
Students can access a dedicated deferred exams tab on the SWS online booking system. Students are advised to bring along the ACA44 form if they require a clinician to complete it after being clinically assessed.
Students are reminded to adhere to the submission deadlines for their application documents. The Health Professions Council of South Africa regulates practitioners, and the issuing of medical certificates and the consultation date cannot be backdated.
2. SWS main clinic: Ivan Toms Building
Students are reminded that the Ivan Toms Building precinct, which houses the SWS main clinic, is a comprehensive primary health care facility, providing medical, counselling and social work services. The clinic is open from 08:30 to 16:30 on weekdays (Mondays to Fridays). Walk-in services are available for students who have an emergency. Other consultations must be pre-booked online.
3. Upper Campus Clinic
Limited medical services are currently provided at the Upper Campus Clinic, which is located in the Steve Biko Students' Union Building. Please note that an appointment is required. The clinic’s operational hours are from 08:30 to 16:30 on weekdays (Mondays to Fridays). Walk-in services are available for students who have an emergency. Other consultations must be pre-booked online.
Limited walk-in services are available at the Ivan Toms and Upper Campus clinics. Students who are ill or fall ill on the day of the exam can consult at the clinics. The service does not require prior booking for an appointment. However, students should be mindful that the walk-in service operates on a “first come, first served basis” as other students may also require it.
Students can obtain telephonic nursing advice via the SWS nurse triage line (021 650 5620) during business hours (08:30–16:30).
4. Counselling services
Students requiring counselling support can book online or email peer counsellors for additional support.
SWS’s 24-hour telephonic counselling services are available even during weekends and after hours:
5. Pharmacy services
Students can collect prescribed medication from the pharmacy after consultation with an SWS clinician. Students must book online for the collection of repeat medication. This service option is only available for students with valid prescriptions.
6. Alternative support services
Please note that SWS clinic services are closed on weekends.
Students can access alternative services as follows:
Please notify CPS on 021 650 2222 immediately in an emergency or crisis. CPS would then contact Emergency Medical Services.
The SWS wishes all students the best for the exams. Any further queries can be forwarded to the SWS practice manager.
Sincerely
Student Wellness Service
