Two Oceans Marathon and its impact on UCT

Dear colleagues and students

The annual Two Oceans Marathon will take place from Friday, 10 April, to Sunday, 12 April 2026, with various road closures planned in the vicinity of the University of Cape Town (UCT). In addition, the finish line for the ultra and half marathons will be located on UCT’s Green Mile, on upper campus.

Two Oceans Marathon Trail Run
The Two Oceans Marathon trail run will take place on Friday, 10 April 2026. The race starts at 07:00 from the UCT rugby fields, heading south through the UCT entrance road towards the old zoo. Batches of runners will leave at five-minute intervals until 08:25. The race finishes on the UCT Rugby fields, with a finish time of 14:00. Staff and students are advised to make use of the north entrance to access upper campus between 05:00 and 15:00 to avoid delays.

Campus access
All campuses will be open for UCT staff and students on Saturday, 11 April and Sunday, 12 April, but they will need to produce a UCT parking disc or UCT staff/ student card at entry points. Staff parking is located on the south side of campus.

UCT shuttles
UCT shuttles will operate on their normal weekend schedule; however, due to marathon-related activities on campus and in the surrounding areas, shuttles may experience significant delays. It is recommended that UCT students and staff check the website and use the UCT shuttle app (available on Google Play or the App Store), which provides live updates and locations of all shuttles.

Parking closures
P1, P4 and P5 (upper campus) will be closed from 18:00 on Thursday, 9 April until Sunday, 12 April 2026.

  • UCT parking disc holders
    • Reserved parking: P11, P12, P14 and P17 (upper campus)
  • Two Oceans Marathon committee
    • Reserved parking: P2 (middle campus)
  • Prepaid parking (Two Oceans Marathon runners and spectators)
    • P6, P8, P15, P16 (upper campus)
    • Madiba West (upper campus)
    • Tennis Court area (upper campus)
    • P1 (middle campus)
    • School of Economics (middle campus)
    • All Africa House (middle campus)
