Suggest a name for UCT’s New Learning Platform

06 May 2022

Dear colleagues and students

In December 2021 the University of Cape Town (UCT) announced the adoption of a new digital learning platform, Brightspace from Desire2Learn, as part of shaping UCT’s digitally enabled learning and teaching environment to support student success.

The new learning platform offers an intuitive, easy to use interface for creating engaging audio and video content; learning at your fingertips with a responsive mobile application; powerful support for assessment, grading and communication with students; seamless integration with MS Teams and is a cloud-based platform available 24/7 to meet learning and teaching needs at UCT.

We now need your help finding a unique UCT identity for Brightspace and invite all students and staff to suggest a name for our new digital learning platform.

Here are some tips to consider when submitting your desired name:

  • Try to choose a name that is easy to spell.
  • The name should convey something meaningful like Vula meant to many of us previously.
  • The name should be short, clear and easy-to-remember.

Submissions need to be made by Monday, 16 May 2022.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng, will choose the new name from a shortlist of proposed names submitted.
