In remembrance: Mpho Ramahala

13 October 2021

Dear colleagues and students

It saddens us deeply to notify you of the passing of our student Mr Mpho Ramahala (24) on Saturday, 18 September 2021.

Mr Ramahala was studying towards a postgraduate diploma in accounting (PGDA) at the time of his death. He had previously graduated from the university with a Bachelor of Business Science specialising in finance.

After completing his undergraduate degree with top honours in 2019, Mr Ramahala had been extremely successful in his PGDA this year. He was known for his determination to succeed. He will be remembered for his friendliness and willingness to assist others.

Mr Ramahala added energy to every room he entered, and happiness to all people who met him. He remained resolute and he persevered. He used every opportunity as a space for growth and learning in his journey to becoming a CA (SA). That growth was not only reflected in his academic performance but also through his interactions with the many PGDA students to whom he provided advice.

A memorial service was held on Friday, 24 September, with his funeral taking place on Saturday, 25 September, in Makhado, Limpopo.

He is survived by his father, Irvin, and siblings, Matamela and Konanani.

We join the Ramahala family as they mourn the loss of their son. The university has contacted the family to offer support during this difficult time.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
