In remembrance: Veronica Francis

15 February 2021

Dear colleagues and students

We are deeply saddened to convey the news of the passing of our colleague, Mrs Veronica Francis (69), on 2 February 2021 due to COVID-19 complications.

Mrs Francis joined UCT in 2007 and was a research coordinator at the Mayosi Research Group in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

She has been described as having a smile that would light up a room and put everyone at ease. She will be remembered for her tireless dedication to her work, her optimism and kindness, and the endless support she provided to her colleagues, friends and family. She was the cornerstone of research collaborations with many institutions in South Africa and around the world, and will be missed by all who had the privilege of working with her.

Mrs Francis is survived by her son Craig, daughter Faye and her grandchildren.

Her funeral took place on Saturday, 6 February 2021.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Francis family and our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved her during this time of bereavement.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
