Inaugural Lecture and other updates

Dear students and colleagues

This campus announcement aims to inform members of the University of Cape Town community about:

1. Inaugural Lecture: Professor Shadreck Chirikure

Professor Shadreck Chirikure, director of the Archaeology Materials Laboratory and head of the Department of Archaeology at UCT, will present the second Vice-Chancellor’s Inaugural Lecture of the year. The lecture, which will be hosted at the beginning of Africa Month, is titled: “Why does ‘success’ continue to elude contemporary Africa? Some insights from deep history and archaeology”.

The lecture will take place on 3 May at 17:00 in the Kramer Law Building, Middle Campus, Lecture Theatre 1 (not Lecture Theatre 2 as incorrectly stated in a previous communication).


2. University Electoral Commission

The University Electoral Commission (UEC) has elected Naziema Jappie as its chairperson and Kyle Fortune as its deputy chairperson. The purpose of the UEC is to oversee and monitor the national and provincial government election process on the UCT campuses.

3. Parking disc reminder for 2019

Staff are reminded that 2019 parking discs are available for collection at the Traffic Office on upper campus. Parking discs should be collected by no later than 3 May 2019. Failure to display a renewed parking disc on a vehicle will result in a fine.
