Launch of the Research Announcement

28 November 2018 | Acting DVC Prof Michael Kyobe

Dear colleagues and students

Information about initiatives and updates that are critical to University of Cape Town (UCT) researchers is multiplying, yet we do not have a useful platform for delivering these announcements to you. (The research listserv is largely restricted to funding opportunities.)

The Research Office will therefore be distributing the Research Announcement – a regular email communication that will take much the same format as UCT’s Campus Announcements. These will be delivered to all academic staff and postgraduates at UCT, so you will be able to scan the headlines and brief descriptions and read those that are of interest to you.

These announcements will be stored on the Research Support Hub, so if you feel you may have missed something important, you know where you can find them.

I therefore ask that you look out for these emails and make use of the information that is relevant to you (the subject line will always begin with ‘Research Announcement’). And I ask that you encourage all those in your departments and research groups to do the same.

The first Research Announcement went out on Thursday, 22 November 2018. It includes important information about:

  • where to find the latest funding opportunities
  • the National Research Foundation’s new one-call process for applications
  • UCT support for Open Research and Contributor ID (ORCID) and other researcher identifiers
  • UCT’s new research data management policy
  • the research portal, and how information on the portal can be synchronised with your departmental website
  • a pilot of a solution to enable sharing of research equipment.

Please send suggestions for information you would like to see in the Research Announcement to researchvisibility@uct.ac.za.

Sincerely

Professor Michael Kyobe
Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Internationalisation
