13 December 2016

Dear colleagues and students

I am very sad to have to inform you of the tragic death over the weekend of Mr Roger Adams, the Manager: Student Governance Leadership in the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) at the University of Cape Town since 2014.

Previously Roger had been a staff member at Rhodes University, first as a Sports Manager (2008-2011) and then as Deputy Dean of Students (2011-2013). He was a Sports Coordinator at UCT from 1997-2008. He also held various committee and leadership positions. He was a member of Senate and the Institutional Forum; held several positions within the university sports and community-based sports arenas; and chaired the Black Staff Association and the Black Caucus, amongst others.

Roger will be remembered as a gentle and kind person, a champion of transformation, a passionate sports practitioner, a committed coach and a valued colleague.

On behalf of the UCT community I offer heartfelt condolences to Roger's wife Vera, their two children and extended family.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 20 December 2016, at 10:00 at St Stephen's Anglican Church in Pinelands. Roger's colleagues will arrange a tribute on campus early in 2017.

Yours sincerely

Dr Max Price
Vice-Chancellor
