In remembrance: Bophelo Nchakha

29 June 2016 | Campus Announcement

Dear colleagues and students,

It is with sadness that we share news of Mr Bophelo Nchakha's tragic passing on Sunday, 26th June 2016. He died when a taxi he was traveling in was involved in an accident.

Mr Nchakha was a first-year Geomatics Bsc student in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. He was a resident of Rochester House.

He is survived by his parents. The university has been in contact with the family and has offered assistance during this time of bereavement.

Mr Nchakha is remembered as a promising student and a serious scholar who spent  most of his free time occupied with his books, and his ambition was to become an engineer.

The family has indicated that the funeral will take place in the Eastern Cape in two weeks' time. Arrangements are still being finalised.

On behalf of the UCT community, I extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr Nchakha.

Counselling support will be available for those affected by Mr Nchakha's sudden passing through the Department of Student Affairs and the Human Resources Department for students and staff respectively.

Sincerely

Gerda Kruger
Executive Director
Communication & Marketing Department
