In remembrance: Mx Mlingani Matiwane

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of our student, Mx Mlingani Matiwane (29), on Saturday, 6 June 2026.
Mx Matiwane was enrolled for a Postgraduate Diploma in Development Finance at the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Graduate School of Business.
They will be remembered by the UCT community as a pioneering thinker whose remarkable mind was poised to change the world. Lecturers and peers alike will recall an intellectual force who relished stimulating debates and challenged conventional academic boundaries, particularly through groundbreaking insights into behavioural economics.
They will be cherished for being a straightforward and honest advisor who pushed others to sharpen their knowledge.
Beyond the lecture halls, Mx Matiwane was a deeply trusted confidant, remembered for protecting others with unwavering conviction. They leave behind a legacy of intellectual brilliance, sharp wit and unyielding strength.
Mx Matiwane's funeral service will be held at Jesus The Answer Ministries, 94 Cambridge Road, Qonce in the Eastern Cape on Monday, 15 June 2026.
Mx Matiwane is survived by their parents Dr Mninawa and Mrs Nompumelo Matiwane, and their sister Mandilive.
The university has reached out to offer support to the Matiwane family, and our heartfelt condolences go out to them and all who knew our late student.
