University of Stellenbosch (Maties) won this year's overall inter-varsity sporting weekend by 23-15 having beaten UCT in ten sports to UCT's six, with three events drawn. Two points were allocated per team win and one for a draw.

Last year UCT clinched the overall win by two points with the last result, the surfing event, determining the overall winner.

Maties, hosting the event for the first time since the reintroduction of the inter-varsity weekend which was last played in the early 1990s, secured wins in golf, waterpolo, squash, netball, hockey, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, badminton and rugby. All sports were closely contested events and UCT did well to win cycling, chess, football, surfing, ultimate and fencing.

No overall trophy was awarded this year, but UCT athletes will be raring for another crack at their Maties rivals in the 2015 instalment. Planning has already started for next year's event, to be hosted by UCT.
