Holiday Care entertains kids

20 July 2009

Children danced, played drums and sang happy birthday to 91-year-old Nelson Mandela as the UCT Holiday Care programme concluded its winter business on 17 July. The children, aged six to 13 years, also displayed the art they had been doing over the three-week holiday to their parents. Desray Ferhelst, co-ordinator of the programme, said the kids were entertained with indoor games and taken to entertainment centres like the Baxter Theatre and GrandWest. They were also taught leadership skills and arts and craft. The programme started in 2005 to keep school-going children of UCT parents occupied during holidays. It has even attracted parents who are not UCT staff.
