The two scholars have conducted research on all aspects of the China-Africa relationship in 53 countries, including South Africa. Their seminar will focus on some of their tentative conclusions from the study.

Shinn is an adjunct professor at George Washinton University's Elliott School of International Affairs. During his 37-year career in the US Foreign Service, he served as ambassador to Ethiopia and Burkina Faso. Eisenman is a Fellow in Asia Studies at the American Foreign Policy Council and a doctoral student in political science at the University of California. He is co-editor of China and the Developing World: Beijing's strategy for the 21st century and author of the book's chapter on Sino-African relations.
