Graduation leads, please

Yup, it's that time of the year folks. We're getting in early and putting out an appeal for interesting graduation stories. Our last edition of Monday Paper for 2005 will be devoted to chronicling the incredible, the intelligent, the illuminating and the inspiring.

Perhaps one of your students has discovered a cure for a rare tropical disease or a device that will enhance medical procedures. Or perhaps you feel like you're conducting a three-ring circus because you have a record number of students graduating. You may even know of an octogenarian preparing to be capped for the first, second or even third time.

This is the edition we celebrate moms and dads capping their offspring, siblings graduating together, relatives travelling from the far ends of the earth to be here. We're looking for heart-warming stories and heart-racing discoveries - anything that celebrates our graduands and their many tutors, lecturers and administrators.

If you have any suggestions, please send details to Helen Théron.

Student housing move

The Student Housing & Residence Life central administrative offices are moving to premises above Nedbank, Main Rd, Rondebosch. Currently these departments are housed in Cottages 2 and 3 at Protem. The student accommodation office, operations, finance, the directorate and the campus accommodation and letting office (both vacation accommodation and the off-campus accommodation bureau) will move into their new, temporary office during the building of the new residence on the Protem site. This temporary office is at 28 Main Road, Rondebosch, above Nedbank and opposite the Pick ?n Pay shopping centre. The site previously housed Damelin College. The entrance is around the back on the left (you can walk up Devonshire Hill Road from the Main Road, in between Mr Price and Nedbank). The department plans to put up signs soon to direct students and other visitors. The telephone, and fax numbers and the e-mail addresses remain the same. Unfortunately, although the Jammie Shuttle service runs past the building, the shuttles are not allowed to stop anywhere in Main Road (because of licensing restrictions). Students should either take the shuttle to Tugwell Hall at the lower campus terminus and walk past the Baxter Theatre to Main Road, or come down Grotto Road, depending on their point of origin. Limited parking is available for visitors.
