Rainbow campus

03 June 2005

Morning commuters were treated to a magnificent arch of colours as a heavy downpour showered the Mother City. One wonders where the pot of gold was hiding on the UCT campus.

The idea that a pot of gold can be found at the end of the rainbow originated in old Europe. In Silesia, an obscure area of eastern Europe, it was said that angels put the gold there and that only a nude man could obtain the prize.

The legends of many cultures see the rainbow as a bridge between heaven and earth. In western culture, the rainbow has become a symbol of renewed hope; something lucky to look upon.
