Staff and students celebrate our beloved continent

30 May 2005

Keeping up its Year of Africa events, the International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO) hosted an African Day celebration last week, inviting staff and students to trumpet all things African. At the event itself, students, staff and visitors enjoyed a feast of music, poetry, dance and oration. Among the guests on the evening was Miyere ole, a member of Kenya's pastoral Masai people, who is walking around Africa to draw attention to the growing threats to the Masai lifestyle. And, although they couldn't make it to the celebrations, staff from the faculty office in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (right) got into the swing of Africa Day by donning their best and brightest African outfits, headgear included.
