Information technology's their game: UCT's Shelly Jordan (left), talking to Sharon Oosterberg of CompTIA, and Frederick Niekerk (right) are among the UCT members of the new Western Cape ICT Trainers' Forum, launched at UCT last week.

Information and communication technology (ICT) trainers from around the Western Cape, including a generous envoy from UCT, made their way to the UCT Club last week to launch the regional branch of the ICT Trainers' Forum.

Established under the aegis of the international Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), the Forum is intended to provide ICTS trainers with a support network that can address issues of mutual interest. "The Forum is for anybody involved in ICT training," explained CompTIA's Sharon Oosterberg.

"It's a forum for trainers to get together and meet, to share resources, and also to be a unified voice," she added. "There's always been representation for training companies and vendors, but there's never really been anything for the trainers themselves."

Trainers from UCT's Information & Communication Technology Services (ICTS) were among those who attended last week's launch.

The Forum will convene quarterly, with newsletters and emails keeping members up to date with events and discussions. Branches were also launched in Johannesburg and Durban recently.
