Dancers limber up at Jammie

09 September 2002
IT'S NOT often one has to duck high-kicking dance students limbering up on the Plaza.

Recently UCT School of Dance students treated the gathered throng on the Plaza and Jammie steps to a pre-performance demonstration in preparation for their annual Baxter season, which premiered on August 30.

A lecturer at the School, Eduard Greyling, said: "The dancers were welcomed with open arms by an excited crowd, of whom many expressed their hope that this sort of 'happening' would occur more regularly. The Baxter season is designed to showcase the students in various styles of dance they study, and is always very successful."

Some works presented show marked fusions between different styles. "The School presents itself as the stamping ground for future generations of dancers and choreographers," Greyling added.
