Lesser-known Irma Stern graphics on show

16 July 2002
DON'T miss the chance to enjoy an unusual exhibition of Irma Stern's graphic works, many of which are little known to the public.

Her charcoal portraits, colourful pastels and expressive pen and ink drawings are on show in the unique environment of her home at the UCT Irma Stern Museum until August 10. Stern sketched prolifically on her travels throughout Africa and Europe.

Her drawings, dynamic, swift and sure, are expressive of her urgency and passion as an artist. Vibrant harbour scenes, bustling street life, quiet portraits and nudes are all captured by Stern's confident hand.
