Villa sculpture finds new home

GSB sculpture

A striking two-metre golden-yellow steel sculpture was recently donated to the Graduate School of Business (GSB) by alumnus Miles Marsh, who graduated with an MBA from the School in 1972. The abstract sculpture, by the famous Italian/South African sculptor Eduardo Villa, has many on the campus speculating about its meaning and relevance to the GSB. Marsh, now a retired businessman who lives in Chicago, US, was moving his South African art collection, and wanted to give the Villa sculpture (titled Energetic Figure 12) a new home; the GSB, he thought, would be just the place. "I imagined that the GSB would be the ideal home for the sculpture, because of the synergy between a work of art depicting human energy and purposes, and the GSB's philosophy," said Marsh.
