USHEPiA goes from strength to strength

Jim Ayorekire, Charlotte Karungi, James Manchisi and Faith Okalebo are the latest graduates from the USHEPiA programme.

This week, Jim Ayorekire, Charlotte Karungi, James Manchisi and Faith Okalebo will bring the total number of graduates from the 11-year-old University Science, Humanities & Engineering Partnerships in Africa programme (USHEPiA) to 38.

Ayorekire graduates with a PhD in environmental and geographical science. His thesis was on planning for sustainable tourism development in the Lake Victoria Shore region of Uganda. Ayorekire is a lecturer at Makerere University in Uganda.

Karungi graduates with a PhD in political studies for her thesis on Interventionist Foreign Policy: Uganda's Security Challenges. She is a lecturer in the Department of Political Studies at Makerere University.

Manchisi will graduate with an MSc in chemical engineering. A staff member at the School of Mines, University of Zambia, Manchisi's thesis is titled An Investigation of the Feasibility of Bioleaching Cooper from the Ores of Nchanga Mine of Konkola Cooper Mines PLC, Chingola, Zambia.

Okalebo will graduate with a PhD in pharmacology. In her thesis, she looked at the antimalarial and pharmacokinetic properties of synthetic derivatives of the natural product, curcumin. She is based at the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Nairobi.

The USHEPiA Office congratulates these graduates on their hard work over the past years, and wishes them every success in their future academic endeavours.
