UCT ParaSports club raises awareness on blind football
The ParaSports club at the University of Cape Town (UCT) is on a mission to have blind football included as one of the university’s official sporting codes. As one of the first steps towards achieving this goal, the club hosted a benchmarking webinar on the growth of the sport in other parts of the continent and for tips and advice on what UCT needs to do to get the ball rolling.

UCT moves up in research rankings
The University of Cape Town (UCT) moved up 18 places, from 121st to 103rd position in the 2021 US News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings , and was ranked in the top 100 for six subjects, including an outstanding top 10 ranking for infectious diseases.

UCT climate change experts develop Just Transition Transaction aimed at addressing South Africa’s electricity supply crisis
Three University of Cape Town (UCT) climate change experts have carried out a case study to understand what a just transition of South Africa’s energy landscape into a low-carbon environment could look like. This Just Transition Transaction (JTT) aims to simultaneously solve the electricity supply crisis in South Africa while moving the country towards renewable energy, its emissions commitments and job creation in terms of the Paris Agreement.

UCT launches interactive website to track SA’s post-secondary school qualifications since 1994
In 2020 approximately 14% of South Africans managed to attain a post-secondary school qualification – a 7% increase compared with figures from 1994. While there has been steady progress over the past 25 years, achieving governmentʼs target of 22% by 2030 will take work.
