UCT scientific prowess – top researchers scoop NRF awards
Several top University of Cape Town (UCT) researchers were honoured with prestigious accolades at this year's National Research Foundation (NRF) Awards. The awards celebrate the country’s top researchers, scientists and research teams for their work towards advancing knowledge and helping society address and overcome challenges through research.

UCT joins global coalition to expand higher education access for refugees
In response to the urgent need for improved higher education programmes and support services for refugees and their communities, the University of Cape Town (UCT) is among several leading universities from three continents who launched the Global University Academy (GUA) to develop a universal higher education model. Universities based in Africa, Europe, and North America formed the GUA following a workshop hosted by the University of Oslo in June 2024.

The University of Cape Town (UCT), in collaboration with global and local partners, is at the forefront of a revolutionary development in women’s health, which is aimed at assessing the effectiveness of the Genital Inflammation Test (GIFT) – an innovative and user-friendly device aimed at detecting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and bacterial vaginosis (BV) in asymptomatic women.
