A Nature Communications research paper co-authored by the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Emeritus Professor Mark Alexander shows how emissions from global concrete production can be significantly reduced by improving material efficiency. South Africa’s over 55s are staying economically active for longer
South Africa's population aged 55 and above is redefining aging and reshaping consumer behaviour. The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Liberty Institute of Strategic Marketing's 'Forerunners Report (Over 55s),' published on Thursday, 19 October 2023, found that middle-class South Africans are staying economically active for longer . Despite limited research on this demographic, it is gaining significance and evolving, which is especially valuable in the context of a struggling economy.

Disability benefits may help protect people with schizophrenia against the economic costs of the disorder
People living with schizophrenia are at risk of suffering from extreme economic hardships. However, recent research found that disability benefits may protect against some of the economic costs associated with the disorder. The findings are published in the Journal of Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology .
