Graduation Poem by Siphokazi Jonas
Siphokazi Jonas is one of the most prolific spoken word poets in South Africa, and her work has travelled nationally and internationally. An alumnus of UCT, Siphokazi writes and performs this poem that speaks to the challenge of graduating under the shadow of a changing global experience.

A new University of Cape Town (UCT) study into the emotional well-being of young people during the COVID-19-related lockdown in South Africa has revealed that majority are suffering from depression.

New candidate TB vaccine appears safe and immunogenic in treated TB patients
The results from a clinical trial investigating the use of a candidate vaccine that prevents the recurrence of TB in people who have recovered from the disease , displayed an acceptable safety profile and encouraging evidence of vaccine-induced immune responses when given to cured patients at the end of treatment.

Millicent Agangiba was four years old when she was diagnosed with polio – this altered the trajectory of her life. She underwent years of medical treatment, and while her condition improved significantly, her mobility remained a challenge.

Advocating for better rural health
For the past 20 years, the Rural Support Network (RSN) has aimed to advocate for better Rural Health Care development in Rural and peri-urban communities, through educating of future health care professionals in rural communities. This year we have continued to highlight the issues of rural health care and looking at how we, as students and health professionals, can do more for our communities to ensure a better future for all.
