Dear colleagues and students
It is with a deep sense of sadness that we inform you of the passing of our colleague, Mr Fehraad De Nicker (41), on Saturday, 21 June 2025.
Mr De Nicker joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) in May 2017. He was the communication and marketing manager at the Hasso Plattner School of Design Thinking Afrika (d-school). Before this role, he worked at the UCT Graduate School of Business.
His colleagues said he will be remembered for his generosity; and for always being ready to lend a hand, provide encouragement and brighten a moment with his subtle humour. They said he brought warmth and sincerity to every interaction. His contributions to the d-school, the Centre for Higher Education Development, and the wider academic community were characterised by professionalism, excellence and innovation.
Mr De Nicker will also be remembered for his brilliant mind, authentic spirit and genuine care for others. Through his engaging conversations, supportive nature and insightful perspectives, he’d always teach his colleagues something valuable. He was deeply committed to his personal growth. He was pursuing an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) at the time of his passing, and remained deeply passionate about life, including his beloved dogs.
His colleagues will fondly remember his cooking sessions, distinctive dress style and how unapologetically himself he was.
He is survived by his brother Rezar, sister-in-law Megan, and two nieces, Leia and Lanah.
Mr De Nicker’s funeral was held on Sunday, 22 June 2025.
The Hasso Plattner d-school Afrika will hold a memorial service on middle campus on Monday, 30 June 2025 from 13:00 to 14:00.
The university has reached out to the family to offer support in this time of bereavement. We convey our sincere condolences to Mr De Nicker’s family, friends, colleagues and everyone who knew him.
Sincerely
The UCT Executive
