Outcome of engagements with UCTEU

16 February 2024

Dear colleagues

The University of Cape Town (UCT) management has engaged with and addressed several issues raised by the UCT Employees Union (EU) in a memorandum handed over on Thursday, 8 February 2024.

Engagements between management and the UCTEU have continued after the union embarked on strike action, which involved between 40 to 100 Professional, Administrative and Support Service staff, since 8 February. The latest meeting with the UCTEU took place on Friday, 16 February 2024.

We are pleased to report that the parties have reached an agreement, which brought the strike action to an end. In the interest of labour stability and the progress made in the CCMA-facilitated process which commenced on Saturday, 10 February, the union agreed to call off the strike with immediate effect.

We are pleased that the engagements resulted in the parties reaching resolution and we thank all members of the UCT community for their patience and understanding during this period.
