Preparing for first-year teaching on Amathuba

01 February 2023

Dear colleagues

The start of the first semester of 2023 is fast approaching, and we are excited that our first-year students will begin their higher education journey using the University of Cape Town’s new digital learning platform, Amathuba, powered by Brightspace. Amathuba enhances face-to-face and online teaching and learning with essential key features that improve the student learning experience.

The Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) hosted training sessions for both teaching staff and course administrative staff to familiarise them with the new digital platform and to assist teaching staff to refine the course sites that were migrated from Vula to Amathuba or to build new courses on Amathuba.

Additional Amathuba support for teaching staff

If you missed the training sessions, CILT are making the following additional support resources available to teaching course staff:

  • recorded versions of Amathuba-specific webinars on the CILT YouTube channel
  • short videos about tools and functionality in Amathuba, and
  • Amathuba quick guides.

CILT is also offering walk-in consultations for new Amathuba sites at the CILT offices until 17 February 2023, to teaching staff who are building new Amathuba sites. CILT is located on upper campus: PD Hahn Building, Level 7.

You can also access individual support:

We encourage all first-year teaching and administrative staff to access these resources to both support and complement their online and face-to-face teaching.

Support for tutors

Tutors supporting courses on Amathuba will be able to sign up for training via the CILT webinars page from Tuesday, 7 February 2023.
