In remembrance: Duma Dwane

12 October 2022

Dear colleagues and students

Our hearts are heavy as we write to inform you of the passing of our student, Duma Dwane (20), on Sunday, 2 October 2022.

Mr Dwane was studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce degree, specialising in financial accounting: chartered accountant stream. He has been fondly described as a loving, gentle soul, and will be remembered for being very generous with his love and time. He wanted to help others and enjoyed being in the presence of the people he considered family and friends. His friends and family remember him for his intelligence and work ethic, which they have described as being beyond reproach.

He is survived by his mother, Phumla Dwane-Alpman; father, Wandile Boya; and siblings Mesuli Lobese, Lwandile Boya, Bakhe-Bathande Boya and Aisha Alpman-Masondo.

He will be laid to rest on Wednesday, 12 October at Hatfield Christian Church in Pretoria, Gauteng.

It is never easy to lose a young, bright soul. As a university, we mourn with Mr Dwane’s family, to whom we have reached out to offer our condolences and support.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
